Donegal Men claim their First Inter-Zone Trophy
The shield competition is very important for up and coming teams who are striving to enter the top echelons but who require time to improve. Donegal are one of those teams who are building a young squad with potential and this competition is an ideal training ground where they can build team spirit but also confidence in order to be better prepared for the main competition.
Donegal men's zone team have never won silverware and this squad have moved on from last year. The players will go down in the history books of the Donegal zone. This is an important landmark for them.
North Eastern are also building and this experience should also hold them in good stead for the future, if they can keep the nucleus of the team together and introduce more young front end bowlers then they will be able to challenge any team on their day.
There has to be a loser but North Eastern showed their capabilities and despite being 11 shots down at the interval their main players were never going to throw in the towel despite Donegal extending their lead going
into the final stages of the game.
Donegal were never complacent and were prepared for a late rally from North Eastern. At times it was a nervy finish as Donegal watched their lead dwindle but in the end they had the composure and execution of shot to repell the late surge to lift the trophy.
